Founded in 1979 by Thierry de Montbrial on the model of Anglo-Saxon think tanks, the French Institute of International Relations (Ifri) is France's leading independent research and debate institute dedicated to the analysis of international issues and global governance. The mission of Ifri's policy-oriented research is to shed light on and put into perspective major international events. It is primarily aimed at political and economic decision-makers, academics, opinion leaders and civil society representatives. Ifri focuses on analysis and forecasting on European and international affairs, through a multidisciplinary approach that combines the local, national and global levels.
